Soussans lies in the north of the Margaux appellation. The village is small and compact, with winegrowers' houses and town houses in limestone. Around it, wine estates cover most of the land, with wine stores, vat rooms and staff housing. Towards the estuary, the palus form a strip of low meadows. A few newer houses have been built on the edge of the village.

Most houses in Soussans are old: for a home built before 1 January 1949, a CREP (lead report) is mandatory.
